Introduction #
This video discusses a specific video uploaded by Yeonmi Park called “North Korea State Agency Confirms Shocking UFO Appearance in Wonsan City”, the video is a clip of a North Korean news report with subtitles that claimed that the population of the North Korean city of Wonsan had all mysteriously vanished, leaving behind a strange smell, with a “disappearance specialist” claiming it was due to UFOs.
We traced the original source of the video back to a parody account on YouTube and paid Korean translators to translate the video, although the translations were hard to read as the translators struggled with the North Korean dialect, the translations they gave us clearly proved that the translations in the parody video were completely fake and had nothing to do with what was actually being said in the news report.
Yeonmi however had presented this as an official translation from the state media of North Korea, leading people to come up with wild conspiracy theories, even suggesting that the North Korean government had carried out mass executions in Wonsan and then blamed it on “UFO kidnappings”, despite being from North Korea and obviously being able to understand the dialect and the language she never explained to anyone that the subtitles were fake and ignored comments pointing this out.
Shortly after our report into this was posted, the UFO video was set to private on Yeonmi’s channel.
