Welcome to the Entropic Domain Relay Chat! You can chat here with other users about anything you like; Articles, games, videos, the sky is the limit! I am still working on a webclient you can access the server through so in the meantime make sure to access the network using any IRC client you enjoy most. (Also accessible via a phone client!)
Come say hi! relay.entropicdomain.net port 6697
On Privacy, Conduct and Moderation #
If you want to chat on this IRC server, be aware of a few things.
- First off, the server is only accessible over port 6697, its a secure service.
- The only information that is stored on the server as far as I know is your nickname and password. No emails necessary or wanted so rest assured you won’t get your inbox spammed with an assortment of “these african herbs grow your wiener” advertisements.
- There is no message history so on restart the logs on your end will be wiped, don’t let that fact lull you into a false sense of security however; Others may screenshot your sensitive information or have a logging feature enabled on their clients.
- Please behave yourselves and don’t post malicious links or be abusive towards others. Express yourself, but don’t be ass.
- If traffic from certain IP ranges turns out to be malicious, I will IP ban or even IP range ban an entire country if I have to. I don’t want to, but if I have to I will.
How to use IRC #
You may use IRC for the first time so feel free to check out this handy userguide on ergo, the service this IRC server makes use of: https://github.com/ergochat/ergo/blob/master/docs/USERGUIDE.md#channel-registration
First off you need a client. One that I have tested and saw work which is cross platform is called “Hexchat” which you can get here.
Opening Hexchat you can add your server on this screen and set up your Nickname Choices.
After setting that up, select the added Network and click on “Edit…”. Make sure that on Servers you added the correct hostname “relay.entropicdomain.net” with the correct port “/6697” right after. Tick “Use SSL for all the servers on this network” and then tick “Use global information” if you want to reuse the info you set up previously. Under login method you can select “NickServ”, or “SASL Plain” if you like and you can enter the password you want for nickname registration which saves you from registering it manually on the server.
Once you enter the server you may not be able to connect to a channel just yet. If you couldn’t set a password before you connected message “/NICKSERV register yourpasswordhere”. After account registration type “/JOIN #void” to enter the general chat. You can create your own channels and access a variety of commands but that is for later, try this exercise first and then check other commands as you go along.
Make sure you remember your nickname. Your name is equivalent to your account and cannot be registered twice. You can chat on this server using multiple clients as long as you use the same identification.
Help, I can’t connect! #
-
Make sure you connect over port 6697 to relay.entropicdomain.net.
-
If you want to use a self hosted KiwiIRC client, that won’t work as webclients are sadly not supported at this time.
-
Your client may not support TLS connections. If that is the case, download a different client. I personally use “Konversation” but something like “mIRC” for Windows should work, or the Thunderbird IRC client or the aforementioned “Hexchat”.
